On his birthday, Zidane held the pre-match press conference for tomorrows Mallorca game. He was adamant in saying that Mallorca, who are fighting for survival in La Liga, are not to be underestimated. They are one of the few teams to defeat Real Madrid this season with a 1-0 win back in October.
Mallorca are not a team to be overlooked, according to Zidane. The Real Madrid coach said: “They will come to look for the three points, they are a team that can cause problems at any moment. They already showed it in the first round match. We only think about the match and continue with seriousness and concentration, to try to win the game from minute 1 to 90. This is a final, we have eight matches left and every one of them is important”.
Much like against Real Sociedad on Sunday, Real Madrid will have to face another one of their super-talented loanees in Kubo. On the Japanese star Zidane said: “I think he’s having a good season. He’s playing a lot and that’s what we all wanted. He is a very interesting player, for the present and the future. I’m happy he’s doing well. Of course, if he were to stay at home tomorrow then that’d be better. But, I wish him the best and urge him to continue like this. His future, though, we won’t decide until the summer. That’s something for later.”
Vinicius and Hazard
Many fans want to see the two players in the same lineup but the problem is that the best position for both players is the same: the left wing. Vinicius and Hazard have played together on a few occasions this season but have been rather unimpressive, mostly due to Vinicius not being as good on the right as he is on the left wing. “I don’t see it as impossible, but we try to make the player comfortable. And where Vini plays best is where Eden plays best. I like to put the players in their best position, but you can get them to play together, I have no doubt” said Zidane when asked about the issue.
The Brazilian youngster had a great game against Real Sociedad and was praised by the coach: “Vinícius is 19 so he still has a lot to learn and he knows that. But, he is a kid who really wants to work and he’s doing it. It’s true that he was phenomenal the other day and not just in attack. It’s good that we have a player who is really good for the present and the future of Real Madrid.”
Ramos, Hazard and Isco
“We will see tomorrow. There are many games in a few days and the recovery is important. We will see tomorrow because it is the day to day. Today we have not done much.”
“His (Isco’s) return is good news. His injury has been less serious than expected and Isco will be with us tomorrow.
Zidane couldn’t escape the questions about the recent controversies, but the French coach refused to be involved.
“Here everyone does their job. I have my opinion, but I’m not going to get involved. One day the schedules, others the referees. My concern is only tomorrow’s game, which is a final. There are eight games left and each of them is very important. The rest I understand, everyone can comment. “
“In the end, the schedule is what it is, nothing is going to change. The only thing we can do is think about resting, because the games are what they are, eleven in a short time, and we must take care of the recovery.”
“There is talk every day of what can happen. It is your job, there are people from Madrid, from Barcelona. I do not get involved. Each one does his job, and it is very difficult, and ours too. I dedicate myself to preparing well for the matches, because what interests us is what happens in the field “.
