- Los Blancos wait to learn their next opponent in Champions League
The 2020/21 Champions League group stage finished last night and Real Madrid are among the qualified teams. Los Blancos are placed in Pot 1 with teams like Bayern, Manchester City, Juventus, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and PSG.
Real’s opponent will be draw from Pot 2 which consists of these teams: Barcelona, Sevilla, Porto, Leipzig, Lazio, Atalanta, Borussia M and Atletico.
According to UEFA’s rules, teams from the same country and those teams that were in the same group can’t be drawn to play against each other. This means that Real Madrid’s pool of opponents is much shorter.
Possible opponents for Real Madrid are: RB Leipzig, Lazio, Porto and Atalanta.
While these teams are all top notch, they are a level or two under the teams in Pot 1 which other Spanish teams will have to face.
However, Real Madrid can’t get too comfortable as they have shown two extreme sides this season. They can beat the best, like Barcelona, Sevilla and Inter, and lose to smaller teams like Shakthar, Alaves and Cadiz.
The draw will be held on Monday, Dec 14th at 12:00h.
