Eden Hazard was the most hyped signing of the 19/20 summer window.
The Belgian star has always stated that it was his dream to play for Real Madrid. That dream finally came true when Real Madrid signed him for a transfer fee that can go up to €130 million with bonuses in the summer of 2019. Almost immediately, Real Madrid fans were disappointed when they noticed Hazard’s weight. He came back from vacation with a lot of extra weight and had trouble losing it and regaining match fitness for months after La Liga started.
Bad form, extra weight but most importantly injuries ruined Hazard’s debut season at Real Madrid. He has already missed more games for Real in one season than he has for Chelsea in all his years there. His right ankle, already injured twice, keeps troubling him. Reportedly Hazard still feels a lot of discomfort in his right ankle. That was one of the reasons why he didn’t play many games for Real Madrid since La Liga restarted.
Hazard was expected to be out for the rest of the season until the pandemic forced La Liga to go into a pause. When he came back, he looked fit and had great games against Eibar and Valencia, with one assist in each game. But things fell apart quickly when it was reported that he’s not feeling 100% fit.Embed from Getty Images
He played a little more than an hour in games against Mallorca, Espanyol and Villarreal, but was rather unimpressive in all of them.
Zidane has published his squad list for the last La Liga game against Leganes tomorrow evening, and Hazard is not part of it. That means that Eden Hazard’s La Liga season has ended. Only one goal and three assists are his contributions to Real Madrid’s La Liga winning campaign, which has left many Real fans disappointed.
Hazard’s quality is undeniable, but that magic moment in football where a big signing proves his worth never came. He will however have another chance at redemption next month when Real Madrid play against Manchester City in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. Los Blancos lost the first leg at home 2-1 and will be looking for a comeback in Manchester.
